carlos do carmo

Carlos do Carmo was born in Lisbon, is the son of Lucilia do Carmo (one of the greatest female fado singers of the 20th century) and Alfredo de Almeida (a publisher). Some say that Carlos do Carmo has grown up in an artistic environment. His ancestral home, in the old neighborhood of Bairro Alto, was an important meeting place for people from the artistic scene in Lisbon. In 1963 Carlos  became at what one of the most successful carriers as a Portuguese artist proved to be. This was partly due to the risk he took by the league to enter into a world where female singers were at the top. Not only that, he even dared Fado new elements to add, like a double bass and orchestral elements. He also added talented Portuguese texts of contemporary writers and poets to his repertoire.
His career consists of many successes. Several albums of Carlos, gold and even platinum. "Un País Homem no" was the first CD released by a Portuguese artist.
You can not separate the name of Carlos's most popular and "real" Portuguese values. His voice is full of nostalgia and loneliness, but also full of love, hope for the future and the happiness you feel during the street parties in honor of Santo António.
Carlos do Carmo is loved by audiences not only because he is a very talented singer, but also because he is someone who deals with social problems, he is a man who is sincerely interested music from his homeland but is aware of the world around him.

amalia rodrigues

Amália da Piedade Rodrigues, GCSE, GCIH, (July 23, 1920 – October 6, 1999), also known as Amália Rodrigues (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐˈmaliɐ ʁuˈdɾiɡɨʃ]) was a Portuguese singer and actress. Despite official documents which give her date of birth as July 23, Rodrigues always said her birthday was July 1, 1920.[1] She was born in Lisbon, in the rua Martim Vaz (Martim Vaz Street), neighborhood of Pena. Her father was a trumpet player and cobbler from Fundão who returned there when Amália was just over a year old, leaving her to live in Lisbon with her maternal grandmother in a deeply Catholic environment until she was 14, when her parents returned to the capital and she moved back in with them.
She was known as the "Rainha do Fado" ("Queen of Fado") and was most influential in popularizing the fado worldwide. In fact, she was one of the most important figures in the genre’s development, and enjoyed a 40-year recording and stage career. Rodrigues' performances and choice of repertoire pushed fado’s boundaries and helped redefine it and reconfigure it for her and subsequent generations. In effect, Rodrigues wrote the rulebook on what fado could be and on how a female fadista — or fado singer — should perform it, to the extent that she remains an unsurpassable model and an unending source of repertoire for all those who came afterwards. Rodrigues enjoyed an extensive international career between the 1950s and the 1970s, although in an era where such efforts were not as easily quantified as today. Other well-known international fado artists such as Madredeus, Dulce Pontes and Mariza have come close, however.

Amina Alaoui

Singer Amina Alaoui (1964) was born in Fez (Morocco) where she grew up. As a child she heard the Arab-Andalusian music, brought by the Muslims who settled in the Maghreb, late 15th century. Spain ethnically "cleansed" and Jews and Muslims fled to North Africa and countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

Gharnati Amina sings in the style that emerged in Granada, late 15th century. The Iberian Christians recaptured the island after seven centuries of occupation and the Muslims retreated to Granada. Finally settled the Morisco's in North Africa. (Morisco's: Muslims in Spain in 1492 after converting to Christianity and had been kept constantly in mind whether they are "good" lived by the Christian tradition). In North Africa, this style Gharnati orally and early 20th centuries put on paper by Nathan Yafil, who twenty-one-thick sections devoted to book. This caused an interest and revival in the '20s.

Mostar sevdah reunion

Throughout, the musicianship of the group’s veteran performers is impeccable - wonderfully fluent, sinuous and brimming with passion. While the overall feeling may be melancholy, it's a beautiful kind of sadness that leaves the listener inspired rather than depressed. This reviewer is not the first to label Mostar Sevdah Reunion as the Balkans' answer to Buena Vista Social Club, but lazy journalism or not, the comparison is apposite and well earned.”

Francis Cabrel has been singing since the mid 70s and there are many beautiful songs come from his hand. Still in the francophone areas acclaimed singer as stabbing, he began to repeat musical progression and apparently there was not, possibly because of the crowds associated with his mayor of a town in the Pays d'oc. But what a return! And a whole new sound, fuller, literally, using its large collection of guitars, but also excellent musici.Zet using the CD, listen to the song first and remember that this level throughout the album continues! This is even enjoyment for people who do not speak French
